So how do you pick your honeymoon destination?
It really helps for you, as a couple to spend some time thinking about the activities that you want to share. What are your interests? Review this list of activities & interests. Select several that you both agree on and then you can select places where the activities that you agree on can occur.
- Adventure sports like: mountain climbing, hang gliding or whitewater rafting, etc.
- Attending special events like: olympics, Mardi Gras, Super Bowl, Tour de France, etc.
- Backpacking
- Being pampered at a spa
- Casino gambling
- Experiencing great nightlife
- Fine dining
- Fishing
- Getting away from it all
- Going to a new city or cities
- Golfing
- Learn about a new culture
- Playing Tennis
- Relaxing on a beach
- Shopping
- Skiing
- Touring art galleries
- Touring museums
- Visiting natural wonders like: Grand Canyon, caves, waterfalls, etc.
- Water Sports
Honeymoon Timetable At least 6 months in advance:
- Determine interests and consult with travel agent, friends, family and the internet for options and referrals.
- Reserve airline tickets and get a confirmation number. (Remember to use the names that are on your official documents/id.)
- Make hotel reservations. Be sure to specify the type of room (smoking, beachfront, balcony and so on).
- Reserve rental car and get confirmation number.
- Purchase travel insurance to protect your investment
- If your destination is exotic, investigate the requirements for vaccinations and the timetable for getting them.
- Check the normal weather patterns of your destination for the time you will be traveling.
- Begin saving or making arrangements to pay for your honeymoon.
- If your are traveling to someplace you have never been, do some homework and begin to learn about your destination. The internet, library and book stores have plenty of information for you about local customs, weather, and transprotation, etc.
- If you are going to a country with another language, now is the time to begin learning some phrases in that language. Don't expect everyone to speak english.
3 months in advance:
- Finalize all reservations
- Make sure that you have all the documents that you will need such as birth certificate, driver's license (or other picture ID), proof of citizenship, and proof of mariage.
- Obtain a passport if necessary.
- Make arrangements for dog, cat, plant or house-sitting.
2 months in advance:
- Make a list of all the items you will need such as film, batteries, power adapters if traveling abroad, etc.
- 1 month in advance:
- Confirm all reservations.
- Book any tours, tee times, theater tickets, massages, or any other activity that requires reservations.
- Order any special meals needed on airlines.
- Check your credit card balances to be sure that you have plenty of room in case of emergencies.
2 weeks in advance:
- Pick up tickets, boarding passes, vouchers or transfers from the travel agent.
- Refill any prescriptions or medications you can't do without.
- Buy traveler's checks (be sure to record the numbers on a separate piece of paper, in case of loss or theft).
1 week in advance:
- Arrange transportation to and from the airport.
- Arrange to have all mail and deliveries stopped. Ask someone to pick up any gift deliveries.
- Begin packing.
- Organize addresses to write thank you notes on the plane. You'll enjoy your honeymoon more if you have this behind you.
- Pay all bills that will be due while you are gone.
3 days in advance:
- Confirm international flights.
- Buy books or magazines to take with you.
- Leave our itinerary with a relative or firend.
- Check the weather for your destination.
1 day ahead:
- Reconfirm domestic flights.
- Get your home ready such as clean out the fridge, take out the garbage, etc.
